blog post #2 How can i event coordinate & dj at the same time ?

Simply put — I have a lot of practice coordinating events!! If there is no event coordinator it would be up to the DJ to create a timeline and keep the wedding day running smoothly (FOR FREE).  I totally understand not hiring an event coordinator in order to save costs; however, someone still has to coordinate the event to some capacity.  This includes but is not limited to : keeping the schedule on time, assisting venue staff or family members, finding the officiant, lining up the wedding party for the ceremony and grand entrance, dismissing tables for dinner, directing guests, tracking down family members for toasts, locating the photographer and videographer throughout the event, putting gifts in the bridal suite, and solving any wedding related issues or potential road blocks that may appear on the day of the event.  I have also bundled or unbundled more wedding dresses than I can count !!

If this sounds like hard work and a lot of -literal- running around that’s because it is !!! Event coordination is a costly service (anywhere from $600-$2,000 in the midwest) so me offering it at an additional $25 per hour of service booked is incredibly discounted - which I am happy to do because I know in this economy it can be difficult to afford the wedding or your dreams !!

Friends and family can be very helpful (and I DO appreciate their help) but if they are inexperienced with weddings they may not know all of the information necessary to adequately assist in the full capacity required by the couple.

The follow up question to what I stated above is: what CAN’T I do as an event coordinator (pertaining to weddings specifically) ??

The answer would be: I CANNOT step away to assist situations or family matters during the ceremony, toasts, or special dances unless it directly relates to the couple being married.  If there is a medical emergency during one of these events that impacts everyone that would be an exception!

I CAN step away from my DJ board board during the pre-ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner to lead or assist venue staff with event coordination related tasks as I usually play a client specific, pre-made playlist (or playlists) during these times.  I can also step away from the DJ board during open dancing if needed.
